Ofrt Dobbs was built in 1756 during the French and Indian War to protect settlers.
Fort Dobbs was constructed by a company of provincial rangers commanded by Hugh Waddell and named for royal governor Arthur Dobbs.
Archaeologists and historians conjecture that the fort was dismantled after pioneers pushed farther westward. Excavations show the moat, magazine area, cellar, and well of the fort. Exhibits relate the civilian and military life of the colonial era.
A playground and nature trail make the site ideal for family outings.
