History for Mecklenburg County

Mecklengburg County was named in honor of Princess Charlotte Sophia of Mecklenburg-Strelitz, the Queen of George III who was King of England.

Charlotte, named for Princess Charlotte and was established in 1766 and is the county's seat, as well as the largest city in North Carolina.
