Vance was formed in 1881 from Granville, Warren, and Franklin Counties. It is in the northeastern section of the State and is bounded by Warren, Franklin, and Granville counties and the state of Virginia.2
Vance County was named in honor of Zebulon Baird Vance, a member of Congress, Governor of North Carolina, and a United States Senator.
